Afford’s Beenleigh, Southport, Miami, Mt Gravatt and Ipswich Lifestyle Centres came together for ‘Heroes 4 Heroes’ Day, an opportunity to show their respects to the SES workers who helped across the state during the recent floods. Customers, lifestyle assistants and even team leaders got into the spirit by dressing up and bringing friendly competition to the activities on the day.
When you join an Afford Lifestyle Centre, you will make friends for life and participate in exciting events.
Senior Lifestyle Assistant, Giaan Hider, organised the day and was inspired by the local fundraising campaign launched by Radio Station, B105 Brisbane.
“I saw their campaign and wanted to help bring awareness to the work of the SES. The floods badly affected our sites and they helped us out. Beenleigh had to close for ten days as the water was so high,” said Giaan.
Batman and Super Woman stood side by side with police officers, medical professionals and SES workers as everyone got involved and dressed as their heroes.
“We have some customers whose parents are SES workers. One of the customers borrowed her dads’ uniform to wear. Others came as nurses and surgeons. It was great to see,” continued Giaan.
The day was filled with laughter and smiles as the sites celebrated their first time being together since the 2021 Christmas party. It was a welcome change of pace for our sites and an opportunity for customers to work on their goals.
“Throughout the day, everyone was laughing, dancing and mingling with their friends. Many of our customers have NDIS goals for socialisation and accessing the community so it was perfect for developing those skills,” said Giaan.
The egg hunt was one of the most popular events of the day as it was a chance for everyone to get involved at the same time. Ending the sunny day with a water fight was another highlight.
Rebecca from Beenleigh told Giaan, “It was the best day ever. It was so much fun having a water fight with all the staff and team leaders. The best game was bull rush. I enjoyed running with all colours.”
We look forward to seeing our sites come together for more events like this.
