Regina ‘Reggie’ Sorensen, a beloved fish and chip maker hailing from a quaint village in Tasmania, rose to prominence as the remarkable two-time winner of Big Brother Australia during the show’s third and fourteenth seasons. Though she twice claimed victory in Australia’s biggest television popularity contest, Reggie’s path was not without its share of tribulations.

In 2008 Reggie was declared legally blind after having been initially diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare degenerative eye condition. The diagnosis led her to genetic testing, where she learnt last year she has Usher syndrome type 2A. Reggie also suffered a stroke in 2017 because of a heart condition.

Alongside her personal struggles, Reggie also experienced the joys and difficulties of motherhood. She has two children, Mia and Lucas. Lucas was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after birth. “We are both very resilient and very strong people. We have the special bond of being different and are both working to live the best life we can,” she says.

Now calling Gold Coast home, Reggie can be found speaking at conferences and working on a myriad of projects, including a documentary about her life and hopefully a book.

Though it took nearly 20 years for Reggie to receive an invitation back to the Big Brother house, it came as no surprise when she once again emerged as the victor. Beneath her surface, there is a depth to Reggie’s story that surpasses what most people might assume. Her journey has been one of immense challenges, captivating moments, and emotional resilience. The real Reggie is a blend of honesty, vulnerability, and an irresistible sense of humour that leaves a lasting impact on those who truly know her. Her story is one of strength and the human spirit.
